About this programme
The Bachelor of Arts in Communications and Creative Multimedia has been developed to meet the needs of industry for skilled communications professionals, in particular skilled multimedia content creators.
This three-year course aims to produce graduates with skills in both conventional and new media, through combining traditional communication and media production skills with high-level training in multimedia production.
There is a strong emphasis on multimedia production and the use of computing technology to integrate the wide range of communication media. Students will also be encouraged to develop the theoretical skills necessary to analyse critically the media and the information society, both in terms of its technological manifestation and its social impact.
What subjects will I study?
YEAR 1
In the first year of your studies you will gain practical knowledge in the areas of Visual Design, Audio Production, Web Design and hands on experience using Digital Cameras, Audio Recording Equipment and multimedia authoring tools. You will also develop an understanding of the theories behind Digital Media and Film Studies, Applied Writing and Visual Communications

YEAR 2
In the second year you will further develop your practical skills using various audio-visual and multimedia tools and applications. Following on from this you will be expected to work in groups to write, direct and produce your own original short film, CD-ROM and Animation, whilst simultaneously developing your own personal portfolio of digital media and print work. You will also further develop an understanding of the Creative Media industry as well as start to examine the effects that Media and information technology have had on society

YEAR 3
In the third year of the degree you will get the opportunity to realise, develop and showcase your creative ideas and skills. This will culminate in the public exhibition of the yearlong major project. You will broaden your theoretical knowledge and understanding of the impact and potential of the Creative media industry and further appreciate its influence on today’s society.

Entry Requirements
Six Leaving Certificate subjects, including English, or Irish (Grade 0B3 or HD1) and Mathematics with:
at least grade C3 in one Higher Level paper together with at least grade D3 in five Ordinary Level papers.
or
at least grade D3 in six Ordinary Level papers (and 0B3 in English, or Irish) and 200 points.
