SMRC researchers receive funding to study Hirschsprungs disease in children

The Childrens Medical and Research Foundation at Crumlin Hospital has awarded a 3 year grant to Dr Gerard Sergeant at the Smooth Muscle Research Centre in DkIT.

The collaborative study with the consultant Pedriatric Surgeon, Professor Prem Puri, will use a combination of electrophysiology, molecular biology and Ca2+ imaging to examine changes in smooth muscle cells and specialised pacemaker cells in segments of bowel excised from young children suffering from Hirschsprungs disease.
