Welcome to the School of Engineering. Engineering is the design, analysis, and/or construction of works for practical purposes. Engineers use their knowledge of science, mathematics, and appropriate experience to find suitable solutions to a problem. Creating an appropriate mathematical model of a problem allows them to analyze it (sometimes definitively), and to test potential solutions.

We offer programmes in Electronic & Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and in the crossover discipline of Building Services Engineering. Our graduates combine fundamental principles of engineering technology with knowhow to solve real world problems using electrical, mechanical and electronic devices as appropriate. A major theme of the Department is in Sustainability - how efficient consumption of materials and energy, can minimise damage to the environment.

The Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering is concerned with the development and delivery of third level engineering education and training programmes, together with research, relating to physical infrastructure and environment.

The Department of Construction & Surveying at DkIT is the first choice for undergraduate and postgraduate study and research in the built environment. Our vast experience of education, research and development in the built environment has given the Department and the Institute an outstanding reputation, attracting students from all over the country.

The Department of Engineering Trades works in close cooperation with FAS, employers and other agencies to develop and deliver the mid-level and advanced educational phases of a number of apprenticeship programmes. Apprenticeship is a system of employment-based training and education which enables a person to obtain the skills, knowledge and education required to satisfactorily perform the core skills of their chosen trade.
