Music Studies in the Department of Music & Creative Media
In 2010 the Department of Music and Creative Media moved into the newly refurbished Carrolls Building on the DkIT Campus. This €38 million state-of-the-art music and multimedia creative centre includes dedicated facilities for students in the department. Students in the department now avail of new, purpose-built performance spaces and practice rooms and fully equipped labs and recording studios. The building also houses a recital room, dance movement room, radio studio, a TV studio, a screening room, an Avid teaching lab and numerous editing and animation suites. Also in the building, students have access to new Mac Pro and iMac labs with a wide range of professional multimedia, audio and editing software. Students will have convenient access within the building to all cameras, scanners, and portable recording equipment they require and a range of musical instruments including harpsichord, concert harp, traditional harp, viols and classical guitars.

Research has been a key feature of the Department since its foundation and underpins the academic work of the Department. Several of the personnel are leading figures in their fieldls nationally, and their association with DkIT places the Institute in the mainstream of initiative and investigation of music in Ireland. The Department of Music offers postgraduate courses to MA and PhD level.

Ceol Oirghialla has established a reputation for ensemble music-making and the department have a number of ensembles which enrich the musical life of both the department and the Institute. The ensembles perform at a range of events both within the Institute and externally.
