Phishing attempts on the rise

There has been a noticeable rise in the amount of "phishing attempts" coming via email to staff and students recently. Although Computer Services block hundreds of such emails a day, one may slip through occasionally and it is important that users do not fall for these attempts.

Computer Services will NEVER ask you for your details via email in this manner. If we did need your password for whatever reason, we would contact you personally or by phone. However, this would usually be in response to a support issue raised by the user.

If you have ever in the past given your password in reply to one of these fake emails, it is VERY important that you have it changed immediately. Please contact the helpdesk immediately.

Similarly, you should never give your bank details or any other personal information by email, no matter how genuine the request looks.
